About
My journey with yoga began in 1991 in my native Cuba, where I discovered the profound connection between breath, movement, and inner stillness.
What started as a personal practice under the guidance of advanced student Osvaldo Polo Céspedes has evolved into nearly three decades of dedicated study, practice, and teaching that bridges ancient wisdom with modern understanding. As a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance (eRYT-500), I bring a unique interdisciplinary perspective to my teaching. I hold a Master's degree in Music, Education and Society from the University of Havana, and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, graduating Summa Cum Laude as Best Comprehensive Student of my class. As a professional musician—serving as first-level singer with the professional chamber choir "Euterpe" and as Head of Chair Piano Department at the "El Cucalambé" Professional Music School—I understand the intimate relationship between breath, sound, and consciousness. This multifaceted background allows me to address the physical, mental, and emotional dimensions of practice with equal depth and sensitivity. My formal yoga education spans over 2,800 certified hours of training and teaching, beginning with my instructor certification with the Cuban Yoga Association under the mentorship of Eduardo Pimentel Vazquez (La Habana, 2004). I furthered my studies through the comprehensive three-year Faraway program (710 hours, 2007-2010) under the leadership of Mary Paffard at “Yoga for All” school. This rigorous training included in-depth study of asana technique, philosophy, anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology specific to Hatha Yoga. My education has been enriched by workshops with internationally renowned teachers including Mary Paffard, Tias Little (USA), Rodney Yee (USA), Andrés Martínez Pupo (Cuba) Odorico Dieguez (Cuba), Edgar Ortiz (Costa Rica), Rama Jyoti Vernon (UK), and Eduardo Pimentel Vázquez (Cuba). As a committed practitioner of Vipassana meditation in the tradition of S.N. Goenka, having completed four intensive 10-day meditation retreats (⁓ 500 hours), I integrate mindfulness and meditation into my teaching, offering students tools for both physical vitality and mental clarity. My classes blend precise anatomical understanding with compassionate guidance, making yoga accessible whether you're seeking relief from stress, improved physical health, or deeper self-awareness.Over my teaching career, I've worked with remarkably diverse populations: professional dancers at the Professional School of Arts, baseball pitchers preparing for the National Series, actors developing physical awareness, and singers seeking to enhance vocal performance through breath and yoga techniques. This breadth of experience has honed my ability to adapt yoga's benefits to specific needs while maintaining the practice's integrity. My teaching philosophy centers on empowering students to discover their own inner wisdom while providing the technical foundation for safe, sustainable practice. My teaching emphasizes the connection between physical practice (asana), breath control (pranayama), and meditation, viewing yoga as a complete system for physical health, mental clarity, and spiritual growth. I'm particularly skilled at making complex philosophical concepts accessible while providing precise technical instruction for safe, effective practice. Committed to yoga as both art and science, I've presented academic papers on yoga's effects on physical performance, stress reduction, and psychophysical health at national conferences, and I serve on the Philosophy, Art and Medicine Group at the University of Medical Sciences "Zoilo Marinello" in Las Tunas, Cuba.Currently based in Miami and Miami Beach, I'm excited to share the transformative practice of yoga with new students and continue learning from the diverse yoga community here in the United States. In my classes, you'll experience yoga as a complete system for wellbeing: one that honors tradition while remaining relevant to contemporary life.
