Ive been practicing yoga for over twenty years in what started as a way to increase my running stamina and power An avid runner with a love of experiencing as much in life as possible yoga kept me grounded and strong When I came to yoga it was a great workout; then it became “my yoga” no longer just about the workout but about the peace of heart and mind that a yoga practice brings even after all of these years I took my initial hour Yoga Teacher Training at Serenity Yoga Studio in and started teaching there too By the pandemic had hit but it brought opportunities with it For me that included the ability finally attend training for Mindful Yoga Therapy--a yoga and resilience course that is clinically tested and empirically informed-- which Id wanted to do since the early days of YTT; those hours helped me realize that I could adjust the way I brought yoga to the mat to accommodate those whove experienced traumas of all kinds because we ALL have experienced it in some way! Then in I experienced a pretty catastrophic injury to both hips which brought surgical repairs in and continued therapies since then Talk about changing the way my practice looks as well as how I approach it! But it helped me to find different ways to experience the world and my own practice In the meantime I received certifications in Yin and Restorative Yoga--which pair very well with the Usui Reiki I can offer as a Reiki Master-- as well as expanding on Chair yoga that Id gotten a taste of during the MYT training I even completed the remainder of YTT to attain my hour certification in to boot! My love of learning means Im always digging into something to make yoga more accessible to anyone whos interested While yoga is not about doing a pose perfectly it is about safely finding the perfect pose in your own body: the one that shows up on todays mat Whether you cant yet touch your toes or you can hold a challenging pose like handstand there is always more to learn Yoga is the relationship and union that is built between the mind body and the breath It is the adventure and journey of this union that I try to bring to my classes along with a dose of playfulness and inspiration It is in this way that I look to assist others in the strength and grace of their own yoga journey finding balance and grace both on and off the mat.
