About

Sally Burns is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with an approved and active Registered Yoga School (RYS).

Sally Burns is a dedicated yoga practitioner and continuing student of yoga since 1997.  Sally began teaching in 2002 and has been a Yoga Alliance registered teacher since 2003.  She left her corporate career of 25 years in 2007 to focus on teaching yoga.  She teaches a dynamic class integrating her experience with Hatha Yoga, Iyengar and Ashtanga, by emphasizing the union of mindful movement with the breath, as well as alignment in the poses. Sally teaches in Southern California at yoga studios, a senior living community, and a fitness center for those with physical disabilities and/or chronic illnesses (such as MS, visual impairment, and strokes). Sally’s classes have fluid, well-informed sequencing with an emphasis on moving in unison with the breath.  Her instruction is clear and concise, and designed to get students in and out of poses safely and in a way that honors each student’s ability.  She is adept at modifying poses for those with injuries and/or physical limitations, guiding each student to find his or her full expression of each pose.  While no two classes are the same, there is a comforting and familiar rhythm and flow to them.  Those who come to her classes inspire what she will teach in that class.  Breath work is a major focus of Sally’s classes and she encourages her students to use the breath to quiet and focus the mind, to connect the movement to the breath, and to use the breath to maintain a steady flow of energy throughout the practice.  She also teaches workshops focused on pranayama (regulation of the breath). She has studied with David Swenson in the Ashtanga tradition and Karin O’Bannon in the Iyengar tradition. In addition she has taken many other teacher training workshops with notable teachers such as Max Strom and Saul David Raye.  She continues to pursue her education through workshops and self-directed study of meditation, the philosophy and psychology of yoga, anatomy, and asana (poses).
